New Kebab on the Block: Kebab Cuy!

Hello, everyone! People are always wanted to try out new things. It’s just in our nature. But, have you ever thought of what goes down behind the curtain when you’re trying out a new thing? In this article, we will reveal some interesting facts from the development of a company that just happened to be developing and trending. We’ll get to know the strategies in developing their new product! Since we'll be talking about a food business, this will surely fascinate you, culinary lovers!


KEBAB CUY, a kebab franchise, has come to the block! KEBAB CUY was first established in 2016 in Jakarta and finally, opened many branches in other regions. Lately, KEBAB CUY has become a trend among young people who want to taste the sensation of new variants of kebabs. And KEBAB CUY itself is in great demand because of its unique taste that will make many young people interested in knowing what KEBAB CUY tastes like To know more about KEBAB CUY and its new product development, we have carried out a small interview with Rizqi Fathurrahman, one of the owners of the KEBAB CUY’s Bogor branch.



Indomie Kebab

Can you please tell us about the menus offered by Kebab Cuy and its new product?

For your information, Kebab Cuy is the first fusion kebab in Indonesia and we have 6 variants of kebab. Our best sellers are Indomie kebab and ,our brand-new product, Bangcosis. The Indomie kebab was created ,because we realize teenagers’ love for Indomie. It is not a regular kebab with Indomie instant noodle ,because we added secret ingridients that makes it stands out. We want people to be curious with our flavors and make them to taste the kebab. The same goes for our new product, Bangcocis.


What’s unique about this new product?

Bangcocis is unique, because it is a sweet kebab. It is made with bananas, chocolate, cheese, and “beng-beng”. This unusual combinations is breaking the stigma that kebabs are always savory. I mean, can you imagine eating kebab with that flavor combination?


Where did you get the idea for a new product? What process should you go through in making a new product?

At first, we have to do research, because it’s a must! We need to know the current market condition. We also did a survey on what people like right now to what flavor of kebab is suitable for all ages and which of the kebab that people like the most. Then we bring our ideas to the central management and discuss with them. Then several tests are done to the new product and test whether the kebab can be sold to the market, and we will keep evaluating the product.


What do you do to promote the new product?

The promotion is usually going through social media. We usually work with celebgrams, or through the accounts that would promote our food, so that people will be interested in trying our kebab and that people will be intrigued to try our kebab. We happen to be able to work together with Ustadz Ilham’s son, Alvin, which is a celebrity, who makes our sales increased, and rely upon the rest to mouth-to-mouth promotion from our customers.


How’s the feedback towards the new product?

The response was all good, because first of all people like “piscok”(banana with chocolate), and instead of using spring roll’s skin, we’re using tortilla, which makes it durable compared to other kebab (vegetable or meat). It’s even still tastes good if it’s cold. They say it’s a great combination.


Do you think the product will last long on the market?

Yes, of course, because we have tried many times to ensure that this kebab is suitable for sale and loved by the community, and the feedback from the customer is showing so.


Is there any idea that you would like to explore in the future for KEBAB CUY?

For now we can't say there are fixed ideas, but we will continue to revise and look for ideas on how to make KEBAB CUY more delicious, whether we add the variants, or we sell new menus, etc., But, there are new menu ideas from central management, like “nasi kebuli” kebab, kebab package (kebab, veggies, and French fries), and new drinks. So, we ensure you that there will always be new ideas.
